Matrix calculator and linear system solver

Use this online matrix calculator to perform common linear algebra operations and check your work. It is useful for coursework, engineering problems, data analysis, and systems of linear equations.

Enter matrix values and choose addition, subtraction, matrix multiplication, scalar multiplication, or transpose. For square matrices, calculate a determinant or inverse; rank and trace are also available.

For a system A·x=b, set the number of equations and variables and enter the coefficients. Gaussian elimination distinguishes unique, inconsistent, and underdetermined systems; square systems can also use Cramer’s rule or an inverse matrix.

FEATURES

Matrix operations and linear systems

The calculator handles square and rectangular matrices up to 10 × 10. Addition and subtraction require equal dimensions; multiplication requires the first matrix’s column count to match the second matrix’s row count.

  • Matrix addition, subtraction, multiplication, and transpose.
  • Multiply a matrix by a scalar.
  • Determinants and inverse matrices for square matrices.
  • Calculate a matrix rank and trace.
  • Solve A·x=b with Gaussian elimination; square systems also support Cramer’s rule and the inverse-matrix method.

Inputs accept either a decimal point or comma. The precision setting changes result formatting; calculations use standard JavaScript double precision.

Matrix operations

Available operations are addition, subtraction, matrix multiplication, scalar multiplication by k, and transpose. For square matrices, calculate a determinant, inverse, rank, or trace. Set the dimensions, enter values, and select Calculate.

Numbers accept a decimal point or comma. To paste spreadsheet data, copy a rectangular range and paste it into the first target matrix cell.

Solve a system

Set the number of equations and variables, then fill the coefficient matrix and vector b. Gaussian elimination supports rectangular systems; Cramer’s rule and the inverse method require a square system.

Precision and limits

The maximum size is 10 × 10. Choose the number of significant digits for the displayed result. This setting does not remove floating-point rounding error.
