ENGINEERING CALCULATOR

FORMULAS · ALGEBRA · UNITS

Solve formulas. Follow every step.

Evaluate expressions with parentheses, powers, roots, logarithms, and trigonometry. Use the calculator for coursework, engineering, and everyday calculations.

After evaluation, review the order of operations, intermediate values, and an exact fraction when the result is rational. Choose degrees or radians and use the constants π, e, and the previous answer ans.

Separate modes simplify, expand, and factor algebraic expressions; calculate the mean, median, variance, and standard deviation; and convert length, area, volume, mass, temperature, pressure, and other units.

Hides algebra, statistics, and unit conversion while keeping expression evaluation available.

    FEATURES

    Scientific calculator features

    • Step-by-step evaluation of parentheses, powers, roots, fractions, percentages, and trigonometry.
    • Symbolic simplification, expansion, and factorization of algebraic expressions.
    • Mean, median, variance, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and sum for a data set.
    • Unit conversion across 12 categories, including temperature, pressure, energy, and digital storage.

Numerical evaluation uses JavaScript double precision; rational results are also shown as exact fractions. Symbolic algebra uses a locally bundled Nerdamer library. Statistics can report population or sample variance.

Formulas, data sets, and results stay in your browser. Usage analytics records only the operation type and a technical visitor identifier, not entered values.

    Frequently asked questions

Which mathematical operations does the calculator support?

It supports addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, powers, percentages, factorials, parentheses, roots, logarithms, and trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. Standard precedence applies: powers before multiplication, with parentheses available to set an explicit order.

How do I enter decimals and implicit multiplication?

Use either a period or comma, such as 1.25 or 1,25. Multiplication may omit the symbol between a number and a constant or parentheses, for example 2π or 3(x+1).

How do I choose degrees or radians?

Select the angle mode above the calculator keyboard. It applies to sin, cos, tan, and inverse trigonometric functions. The constants π and e are available in expressions and on the virtual keyboard.

How do I enter functions with multiple arguments?

Separate arguments with a semicolon, for example root(27;3) or log(8;2). In root, enter the value first and the root degree second; the second log argument is the base.

What does the step-by-step view show?

The list shows evaluated subexpressions in execution order: nested groups and functions first, followed by lower-precedence operations. It helps review the calculation but is not a formal proof of a mathematical theorem.

When is an exact fraction shown?

When a result comes from rational inputs and operations that can be represented exactly as a fraction, the calculator reduces and displays the fraction beside its decimal value. Trigonometric, logarithmic, and other irrational results are shown as decimal approximations.

How do I reuse the previous result?

After a successful numerical calculation, use ans in the next expression. For example, calculate 5*5, then enter ans+3. The previous answer is not saved after a page reload.

    Where can I use variables?

The numerical mode evaluates numbers and constants only. Open Symbolic Algebra to work with x, y, and other Latin-letter variables.

    Which symbolic transformations are available?

You can simplify an expression, expand parentheses, or factor an expression. A local computer-algebra library produces the result; expansion is capped when it could create an excessively large number of terms.

How do I calculate the mean, median, and variance?

Paste a set of finite numbers and choose the separator. The calculator reports the count, sum, mean, median, variance, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum.

What is the difference between population and sample variance?

Population variance divides the sum of squared deviations by the total count N. Sample variance divides by N−1 and requires at least two values.

    Which data-set separators are available?

The default accepts spaces, semicolons, and line breaks; comma can also be selected. When comma is the separator, enter decimal fractions with a period so values remain unambiguous.

    Which units can I convert?

Categories include length, area, volume, mass, time, speed, temperature, pressure, energy, power, data size, and angle. Choose the quantity and source and target units, then enter a value.

    How are temperature conversions calculated?

Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin conversions use their scale formulas, including the offset between zero points. Temperature therefore uses an affine conversion rather than a simple multiplication factor.

Are expressions or values sent to a server?

No. Evaluation, symbolic transformations, statistics, and unit conversion run in the browser. Usage tracking sends only the operation type and a technical visitor identifier, not expressions, values, or results.

    Expression calculator help

    Numerical expressions

Use +, −, ×, ÷, ^, parentheses, %, factorial !, and functions such as sin, cos, tan, sqrt, cbrt, root, ln, log, abs, exp, min, and max. Multiplication can be explicit or implicit, as in 2π or 3(x+1). Separate multiple function arguments with a semicolon.

In root(27;3), enter the value first and the root degree second. log(x) is base 10; log(x;b) uses base b. Trigonometric functions use the selected angle mode.

    Symbolic algebra

Enter an expression with variables such as x or y, then choose simplification, expansion, or factorization. The library transforms it symbolically without substituting numeric values.

    Statistics and units

In Statistics, choose a value separator and population or sample variance. In Units, select a quantity, enter a value, and choose the unit pair. Temperature uses the Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin scale formulas.

Basic mode leaves the evaluation tab visible; select the mode button again to restore all modes. Copy buttons become available after a successful calculation.
