Screen recorder features
- Choose an entire screen, window, or browser tab in the browser’s built-in sharing picker.
- Record screen audio and microphone, with an optional webcam overlay.
- Preview and save the full recording, an edited clip, or a short GIF.
- Supported formats are checked in your browser; MP4 and system audio may be unavailable in some browser and device combinations.
The browser always asks you to choose the source and grant access. Recordings stay in page memory until saved; long recordings use device memory.
Frequently asked questions
What can the screen recorder do?
It records a selected screen, window, or browser tab when the browser supports capture. You can add microphone audio and, when the source allows it, tab or system audio.
How do I choose what to record?
Click “Start recording” and choose an entire screen, a window, or a tab in the browser picker. A website cannot select the source for you.
Why does screen recording require HTTPS or localhost?
Browsers allow screen capture only in a secure context. Open the hosted page over HTTPS; localhost is permitted for local development.
Can I record system audio and my microphone together?
Yes. Enable both “Tab or system audio” and “Microphone.” The browser may not provide system audio for some sources or operating systems; if so, you will see a notice and microphone recording can continue.
Why is system audio unavailable?
Availability depends on the browser, operating system, and selected source. Enable audio sharing in the source picker if offered; a browser tab often exposes more options than an entire display.
Can I record audio only?
Yes. Choose “Audio only.” Select the microphone for voice; for system audio, the browser still asks you to choose a screen, window, or tab because audio capture is tied to source selection.
When does the webcam turn on?
Enable “Add a circular webcam overlay” before recording. The browser will ask for camera access and place the camera image in a lower corner of the video.
Can I move the webcam overlay?
Yes. Choose the lower-left or lower-right corner. The circular image size is fixed relative to the output frame width.
What do 720p, 1080p, 4K, 30, and 60 FPS mean?
These are target output settings. Actual resolution and frame rate depend on the selected source, display, and device performance; the browser may limit them.
Why is MP4 disabled?
MP4 recording is not available in every browser and configuration. The tool checks MediaRecorder support and disables a format the browser does not report as supported.
How do I download the recording?
A preview appears after you stop. Click “Download recording” to save the full file through your browser. The page does not upload the recording to a server.
How do I save only part of the recording?
Enter start and end times in seconds, then click “Download trimmed clip.” The selected segment plays at normal speed while it is recorded, so export takes about as long as the clip.
Can I make a GIF?
Yes, from a video segment up to five seconds long. GIF uses a limited 256-color palette and is intended for short demos; audio cannot be included in a GIF.
Where is my recording processed and stored?
The stream and temporary data stay in your browser. Until you download it, the recording is held in the open page’s memory; closing the tab removes unsaved data.
Why is recording size limited?
Recordings use device memory, and large files can slow the tab. A built-in safeguard stops recording at about 1 GB of temporary data; the practical limit also depends on the browser and device.
